Come & enjoy
the quiet in Ferry View, our luxury self
catering apartment, located in the cosmopolitan and ancient port of
Dartmouth and overlooking the beautiful River Dart. Take breakfast
outside on the balcony whilst taking in the stunning river views,
later on refresh your body and soul with a long cool drink while
watching the sun set on Kingswear. Or chill out in the garden
courtyard.

The living/dining room
is comfortable and spacious with large patio doors opening on to the
decked balcony and stunning views of the river and across to the
village of Kingswear. Whatever time of year you visit there’s always
plenty going on, ferries crossing back and forth, visiting yachts
and often cruise ships or naval vessels making a stop in our
sheltered deep water harbour. If you watch carefully, you may see a
seal playing in the river, or dolphins out towards the sea!
Cormorants diving for their dinner are a common sight!

Ferry View
is ideally situated just a few steps from historic Bayards Cove,
where the Pilgrim Fathers set off on their epic voyage in 1620 and only
a few minutes walk from the many shops, pubs and restaurants of
Dartmouth.
We have included
towels and soap for all our
guests. Of course all
fresh bed linen is included. The kitchen has 'store-cupboard' items such
as tea, coffee, salt & pepper, and ketchup, plus dishwashing liquid and
tablets.
Parking
A pass is provided for the nearby Mayors Avenue Car Park
|
Your 'home from home'
has a beautiful oak finished kitchen
with French windows to the terrace. There’s a double-oven and separate
microwave, large fridge/freezer and dishwasher, so cooking here will be
a real treat – when you can tear yourself away from the view, that is!
There are plenty of shops in Dartmouth selling the best that Devon has
to offer, so your meals can be made from high quality local produce.
However, many of our visitors eat out every night sampling both the
excellent bar food and renowned restaurants, so you may only need to use
the Bosch oven to warm your breakfast croissants ?

The master bedroom
has excellent river views, a king size bed and plenty of wardrobe space.
Its en suite bathroom has a contemporary bath with shower over.

The second bedroom,
with two 3’ single beds has an en suite shower room.

Laundry
There’s even a compact laundry with
washing machine and a separate tumble drier.
There's so much to see
and do in the South Hams whatever time of year you visit. There are
dozens of activities and attractions to be had from sailing and
boating on the Dart, paragliding or windsurfing in Bigbury Bay or
taking a steam train and open top bus ride from Dartmouth
(Kingswear) to Totnes and then back again on a pleasure cruiser down
the river. Or why not explore nearby National Trust gardens and
houses like Greenway, the summer home of Agatha Christie or Coleton
Fishacre built by the D'Oyley Carte family? With castles at
Dartmouth, Totnes, Compton and Berry Pomeroy there are plenty of
ancient buildings to discover.
On warm days
if the sea is what you’re after, it’s only a short 15 minute drive
west to the beach at Blackpool Sands; this privately owned beach,
set in its own little bay, has been awarded a Blue Flag and is
beautifully maintained, with superb swimming in clean, clear water,
refreshing showers, beach café and shop. Laze away the day just
relaxing in the sun, or if water sport is your thing, kayaks, boogie
boards and wetsuits can be hired on the beach; many of our visitors
say it is like being on the Mediterranean!
When the weather is cooler,
tramp one of the many nearby footpaths that will take you inland
through beautiful woods, valleys and villages, or out onto the coast
path for some sea air and fantastic views? Or maybe try a spot of
kite flying at Slapton Sands, where the waves can be quite
spectacular.
Then, to recover and warm those hands and feet,
why not visit one of the many pubs in town with a cosy log fire. The
Cherub, the oldest building in Dartmouth, the Royal Castle, right on
the Quay or perhaps the Dartmouth Arms on Bayards Cove, where you
can watch the sun go down and the lights come on in Kingswear on the
opposite bank of the river. |

Bayards
Cove A few steps from Ferry View lead you down
through an ancient fort, on to historic Bayards Cove, where the Pilgrim
Fathers set off in 1620. This cobbled quayside has been the setting for
many period and modern day films and TV series; relax on one of the many
seats and watch children catch crabs by the bucketful! You may be lucky
and see shoals of mackerel head into the cove chasing their supper of
smaller fish – a spectacular sight! In the evening it is the perfect
setting to watch the sun turn the river to gold and the hillsides in the
village of Kingswear opposite light up, at first from the setting sun
and then with the many small lights which twinkle and reflect on the
river. At full moon the river becomes like molten silver.

Dartmouth
Ferry View is located in the cosmopolitan and ancient port of Dartmouth
with its narrow winding streets, wide range of shops, art galleries, 14
bars
and internationally renowned restaurants - the perfect holiday setting!
Take a stroll into town and explore the narrow streets and many
Dartmouth “steps”, take a break and enjoy a coffee at one of the outdoor
cafes.
The town has an excellent selection of individual shops and art
galleries, with something to suit all tastes. Visit the Museum, located
in The Butterwalk, one of the oldest buildings in Dartmouth, or take a
tour of the Britannia Royal Naval College which celebrated its centenary
in 2005 and where all British naval officers receive their training.

If you feel more energetic, walk out to visit Dartmouth Castle (English
Heritage) at the mouth of the river, it’s only about a 15 minute stroll
and offers some outstanding views especially back towards the town and
the Naval College. When the bluebells are out, don’t miss a walk up to
Gallants Bower (near Dartmouth Castle) to marvel at a spectacular
display of these very English spring flowers.
To see more of the river and its wildlife, including herons, cormorants
and even seals, take one of the many guided boat trips out to sea (maybe
on "Falcon") or up river to
Totnes, or even rent your own boat for the day! A “Round Robin” trip
will give you the opportunity to view the countryside and sample
transport by river, bus and steam train!
