1.   A new car for a pound?

For the third year running, David Meek of the David Meek Group, Torquay have sponsored a Chevrolet Matiz. To help celebrate this event (from left to right) David Kelland the Chairman, John Light, committee member, David Meek and George Ord, the main organiser, raise a glass to toast what is expected to be another successful year with the sales of the Grand Draw tickets.

Having a Matiz as first prize, has a tremendous effect on the success of the draw and as stated by Chairman David Kelland, “this major prize is very important to George Ord and his team of volunteers who sell the tickets.  The draw is an essential part of the income for Regatta”.  As well as the car there are cash prizes of Second Prize £500, Three Prizes of £250 and Five Prizes of £100 and a ticket only costs £1.  The draw will take place on Saturday 1st September at 8.05pm at the Bandstand in Royal Avenue Gardens.

2.    Dittisham Regatta

Ditsum Regatta was another one of those fun things not to be missed.  Dartmouth dot TV arrived in style in their classic 20 year old SSL Boston Whaler (actually for sale!) and spent the afternoon drinking tea and watching the fun.  We were surprised at how many Dartmouth people were there, but then, Ditsum really is a part of Dartmouth.   If anyone knows next year's date, please let us know, we don't want to miss it!

3.    RNLI update

The Dartmouth RNLI Fundraising team are having a well earned rest after their first Lifeboat week.

The relief lifeboat, D520 arrived mid week. Her active role for ten years, until this April, was at Aldborough in Norfolk where she launched 107 times, rescued 49 and saved 1 life. The new IB1 D class lifeboat, for which the Appeal has been raised, will arrive after the station has become operational. Training and Assessment is taking place on the Dart and in the estuary every day until Regatta and then through September. D520 was first shown to the public at the RNLI Fete in Royal Avenue Gardens. The sun shone and the crowds flocked in. Peter Lucas brought his classic Barnet class lifeboat alongside.

She had seen service at the Lizard from 1961 for 23 years. £3000 was raised on the day including a generous cheque from the Dartmouth and Kingswear Society for £500. In total, with contributions from the Flag Day, and donations from J Sainsbury plc, Lidl UK and many others, some £9900 was raised over the week which means that the Appeal requires £31,500 to achieve its target.

4.    Miracle Theatre at Fingals

It is the Miracle night at Fingals again with The Taming Of The Shrew on Sunday 2nd September at 7pm.

Last year was such a success with Gogol’s ‘The Government Inspector’ (although ‘The Tempest’ might have been more apt) that we hope to make this an annual event.

This year’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s “The Taming Of The Shrew’ has had rave reviews.  Tickets will cost £20 per person. This will include a hot mug of soup with a roll and butter and a pasty during the interval. A cheese board with hot chocolate or coffee will be available at the end. There will also be a pay bar. Tickets (which will be the programme of the evening) are limited and must be booked and paid for in advance by calling us on 01803 722398
