Galleries Week
This Friday 25th begins another Galleries Week with special
exhibitions in various galleries. On Friday they will open from
6-9pm for music, wine, and hopefully the
odd sale! It's a great time to come a meet your friends
and visit 12+ galleries over an hour or two. You will
find it relaxing, stimulating and generally good fun to be part
of the buzz!! Thanks to
Simon Drew,
Trish Thomas, Baxters and the
Coombe Gallery for inviting us.
In 2005 in his 60th year, the artist
Paul Riley spent a month trekking the
Annapurna range in the Himalayas reaching the Thorongla Pass
at
an altitude of 5,460 metres. Four months later he crossed the
Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Hong Kong as lecturer on the
world cruise of P+O liner Aurora. See the results at the
Coombe Gallery.
Baxters on Foss St is holding a mixed exhibition featuring work
beginning with the letter B in a variety of mediums. Several of
the artists will be there so come along and meet them.

4. Photographic
Exhibition The Flavel May 25th – June 1st
Exhibiting his photography
for the first time at the Flavel Dartmouth is Tony Pike formerly
with the Daily Mail Group. Tony has travelled extensively
throughout the world and since retirement spends a great deal of
his time living in Dartmouth. His work has been published in a
number of books and international magazines and he now works in
a freelance capacity. Although born in Henley on Thames,
Oxfordshire, he has been coming to Devon since he was 12 years
old, probably as his ancestors came from Chudleigh and there was
a natural affinity with the region. On this occasion Tony will
be showing mostly pictures of the South Hams and Venice. His
website is

5. Happy
Birthday Dartmouth dot TV !
One year old, 52
newsletters, 979 images, and we are still here! Take a look at our
relentless progress by

Without a doubt we have captured the hearts and minds of
Dartmouth lovers, providing both a superb guide to Dartmouth
www.Dartmouth.info and timely and informative
news. Perhaps our greatest claim to fame was the world
scoop on M&S coming to Dartmouth? Although our
coverage of events such as
Regatta and
Food Festival are more
likely to be remembered. Our photography has featured
in numerous newspapers and magazines, we are proud of
Dartmouth and we love it to bits!
Clearly no one can do
this for free and we have been very honoured to receive
significant corporate sponsorship, take a look by
clicking here.
It's not enough though, we really need £5 or £10 from every
reader and £40+ from every advertiser a year. It
simply isn't fair to us and other sponsors if you enjoy this
newsletter and or gain exposure from our web site, without
donating a little. A famous local poet once told me
"if you want to sit in front of the fire, just now and again
you need to get up and put a log on it', so now and again,
we would like you to give us a log, or a bit of help please!
We take cheques made out to 'Timestep', credit cards, cash,
or almost anything. e-mail us
here or telephone
01803 833366 or post to 'Dartmouth News, PO Box 2001,

RNLI Canoe racing
John Fenton reports:
Dartmouth's new
lifeboat crew found themselves up the creek with a
paddle this weekend at the annual Canoe racing event hosted by
Canoe Adventures at the Maltsters Arms, Tuckenhay. Lifeboat crew
members, Chris Tracey, Ian Watton, Kevin John, Chris Wallace,
Mark Strudwick, Pete Callis and Andy Carter with Dartmouth
Lifeboats very own Press Officer, John Fenton and supporter Rob
Perry drafted in at the last minute, made up a formidable nine
strong team.
After closely fought races against ‘White Feather’ and ‘Stoke
Up’ the crew powered home to their first victory against
‘Luscombe Might’, coming home a full 20 seconds in front.
However, their luck didn’t hold and they were beaten in their
final race by a canoe full of Morris Dancers, ‘Great Western’.
Crew captain Chris Tracey said ‘It was a great day, The team
worked well together and we are already looking forward to
coming back next year.’ Our thanks to the Maltsters Arms and
Phil Sheardown of Canoe Adventures who reports that this year’s
event has raised £831.50, a new record!
