1. RNLI
step up a pace

John Fenton reports:
Some of the Dartmouth RNLI crew had been waiting thirty three
months for this week. At last the “huggy bears,” dry suits,
lifejackets and helmets had arrived and Sea Survival Training
could begin.
The twenty one volunteer crew members enrolled so far, tested
out their kit for the first time in the safety of the pool at
Capton Farm. The bet was that no one could touch the bottom of
the pool whilst wearing an RNLI lifejacket – they couldn’t!
After tuition, each was then able to let off
'day and night' hand
held flares. Every day since then the crew have been training on
the Dart in groups of three, under the tuition of Simon James, RNLI Trainer from Brixham. This exercise was to right a capsized
D class lifeboat and then restart the engine. The training boat
is an old decommissioned lifeboat, only used for this capsize
exercise.

Dreaming of a Midsummer's Night
Malcolm Macintosh reports: Now in the fifth year, plans are well
advanced for ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, and
Dartmouth Shakespeare Week has
firmly established itself as one of the major cultural events in
Dartmouth’s calendar. This year’s production, with a cast of
over 40 and with special guest appearances by some of
Dartmouth’s well-known personalities, such as Simon Drew, Nigel
Way, Hilary Bastone, Shahar Lashkar & Mike Jones of Sax Appeal,
it is expected to be as exciting as ever. As always, the play
will be presented in the open-air at Dartmouth Castle (St Petrox
church if wet) over five nights, from 31 July to 4 August.
You might like
to come down and see it, or better still why not come down this

5. Browns
Hotel 'Loves the Flavour'
We found this most
excellent 42 page local food and drink guide in Browns Hotel
when we were having a much needed cup of coffee.
Browns has a great selection of Wines, Sprits, Beers and
Lagers, often from local sources, so why not pop in and
sample some? You never know, you might like it so much
