3. Readers'
photographs
One of our many readers
David Kent, tells of his visit to Regatta last year: 'I
sailed in Dartmouth regatta last year (& I’ll do it again
this year, a great event!) & took the attached photos. Feel
free to include them on your site if you have a suitable
slot. One is the crabbing contest & the other is a view from
the ferry.' We hope David will contribute to the 2007
Regatta
Photographic Library !!

Memories of Dartmouth
The colours should give this away, and the Mk I Escort ?
1968 anyone? And what were you doing in 1968 nearly 40
years ago?
The Mk.1 Escort featured contemporary styling cues in tune
with its time - a subtle Detroit-inspired "Coke Bottle"
waistline and the "dogbone" shaped front grille - arguably
the car's most famous stylistic feature. Initially, the
Escort was sold as a two- and four-door saloon (with angular
or circular front headlights) but a three-door estate and a
van were later available.
Underneath the bonnet was the low Kent Crossflow engine.
Diesel engines on family cars were a thing of the future, so
the Escort's engines were all petrol - in 1.1 L, 1.3 L and
1.6 L editions. The Mk I Escort's biggest success was
as a rally car, and it quickly went on to become the most
successful rally car of all time. The Ford works team was
practically unbeatable in the late 60's early 70's.

Little Miss Sunshine Tonight!
Rob Bird reports: Oscars
abound on this film! telling the story of the Hoovers, one
of the most endearingly fractured families ever seen on
motion picture screens. Together, the motley six-member
family treks from Albuquerque to the Little Miss Sunshine
pageant in Redondo Beach, California, to fulfil the deepest
wish of 7-year-old Olive, an ordinary little girl with big
dreams.

But "Sunshine" is far
more than the slapstick of "Vacation". It mixes both broad
and subtle humour into a strange brew of comedy, poignancy,
lessons, and life. Huge and deep issues are addressed,
topics like death, dreams, and failure. Yet somehow the
movie doesn't feel heavy. You'll walk out with a smile on
your face because the movie sensibly touches on these
issues, realizing that stuff happens and life continues,
that the handling of adversity is often what defines people.
And above all, there is family, which you're stuck with, for
better and worse.
Our bar at
The Guildhall is open tonight from 7.30pm. The film is to be
shown at approx 8.00pm
Guest tickets will be available from The Windjammer 7.30-7.55 at
£3.50
"The
Queen"
with Oscar winning Helen Miriam: By special request we
are going to show the film on April 19th.
