1. Falconry
display

Whilst on a tour of Woodlands
the Dartmouth dot TV crew stumbled upon the Falconry
Display, not usually to Dave's taste, but what a revelation!
Three quarters of an hour of totally spell binding
entertainment and education. The big birds are not
tethered or in enclosures, if they wanted to fly away, they
could. Woodlands is great fun with or without
children, so call them on 01803 712598 to check on display
times? Check out their web site by

National Moth Night
Moth Night is this
Saturday 7th June. The event, which is free of charge, will
start at around 9:15pm at the entrance to Paignton Zoo
Environmental Park. Whitley Wildlife Conservation
Trust. Reserves Warden Dave Ellacott will lead the evening,
using different sorts of traps to collect moths in the Zoo
grounds.
Paignton Zoo spokesperson Phil Knowling said: “Over 2,400
species of moth have been recorded in the British Isles.
June is a good time of year for moths, as this is when some
of the most attractive species can be seen. Many look
wonderful and have great names – hawk-moth, angle shades,
cinnabar, feathered thorn. This free evening will be a
fascinating introduction to the subject.”
Launched in 1999, National Moth Night is Britain’s largest
moth survey. To book places on the evening ring (01803)
697500.
Paignton Zoo is a modern
Zoo, the Dartmouth dot TV crew usually spend a whole day a
year there. Children are optional, adults will have a great
time too! Check out their web site by

4. A
night out with Mark Lobb!

Two well known
personalities of the Dartmouth Food scene are getting
together later this month to put on a fascinating evening
exploring local fish.
This demonstration and tasting, which is being run in
association with Slow Food® Devon, will be given by Holly
Jones and Mark Lobb. Holly is a chef, food writer and
broadcaster, and runs the Manna from Devon Cooking School in
Kingswear. Mark is a fishmonger and Dartmouth institution
who has been buying fish at Brixham Market for over 30
years. He knows more than most about the current and future
health of the fishing industry in the West Country.
Mark will talk about the state of fishing n the Southwest
and which fish are in good supply and which are suffering
from over fishing. Holly will then cook a range of fish
dishes using those fish which are plentiful but less well
known and old favourites which remain in good supply.
The event will take place on Tuesday 24th June at the Manna
from Devon Cooking School in Kingswear starting at 7 pm. The
demonstration costs £35 which will include generous tastings
of 8 fish and seafood dishes along with a couple of glasses
of wine. Numbers are limited to 20. Check out their
web site by clicking here. To find out more click here

Devon have been awarded a £14,000 grant to spend on
