How about it guys - what a fantastic opportunity to publicise
Marilyn Bird of Dartmouth Film Society says of tonight's
film - an art-house film filled with more humour and skilled
acting than most Hollywood blockbusters, Ten Canoes is a wry
story within a story. The tone of the film is set when
narrator David Gulpilil (Crocodile Dundee) says, "Once upon
a time in a land far, far away...." He stops himself with a
warm, hearty chuckle and adds, "I'm only joking."
Set in Australia's far northern Arnhem Land, the film which
won the Special Jury Prize at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival
tells the tale of friendship, deception, and forbidden love.
Ten tribesmen venture on a trip where they will build
canoes, gather food, and gossip about their sexual prowess
and their wives. With stunning cinematography Ten
Canoes is a fable about jealousy and desire, a fascinating
ethnographic document and a highly enjoyable
nudge-in-the-ribs shaggy dog story.
Our bar at The Guildhall will open at 7.30 - the film to be
shown at 8pm approx.
Guest tickets will be for sale in The Windjammer 7.30-7.55
Regatta Air Show
Holidaymakers Bren and Laura took these fantastic photos of
the Dartmouth Air Show at Regatta last year. Held during
the Royal Dartmouth Regatta this is a not to be missed
opportunity to see some spectacular aircraft. It isn't
widely known, but a lot of aeroplane and military spotters come
to the Regatta to specifically plane spot, and who can blame
them? Several technical magazine carry articles and
air-to-air and air-to-ground frequencies of the show, it's big,
