Dartmouth Golf and Country Club has announced plans to
overhaul its wedding and function facilities – at a cost of
£100,000. The investment is the fourth phase of the club’s
planned refurbishment programme carried out by the club in
the last two years and shows the confidence it has in the
market.
Managing Director Jamie Waugh,
explained: “We have every confidence in the tourism and
function market. We’ve had an extremely positive year with
bookings up on last year and we hope the new refurbishment
will encourage even more people to use our facilities. “We
are committed to continuously improving the clubhouse
facilities including the function rooms and bar areas to
match the extremely high standard of our golf courses.
“The investment will ensure the South Hams once again boasts
a fantastic large function venue which will be used by
locals as well as guests from further afield. “We are a
popular choice for weddings, functions and conferences and
are sure this refurbishment ensures we will maintain our
leading position in the area.” The refurbishment will
include new carpet and curtains and creating two smaller
rooms; the Devonshire Suite able to comfortably hold up to
160 people including a stage and dance floor and the
Dartmouth Suite up to 60 people. The rooms will have a very
modern feel and a flexible layout allowing them to be opened
up through large doors to cater for larger functions and
groups.
A new contemporary lounge bar
area will provide a perfect reception area for any size of
party or group, while the private terrace overlooking the
golf course will be completed in April. Work will start at
the beginning of January and will be completed by the end of
the month. Previous recent refurbishments have included
£150,000 on the three star hotel’s bedrooms and £120,000 on
the club’s brand new Bar and Bistro. Details of special
offers and events taking place at Dartmouth Golf and Country
Club can be found by

‘The Boat That Rocked’
Director: Richard Curtis,
Actors: Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Emma Thompson,
108 minutes, Cert. 15 – Biography/Drama
‘The Boat That Rocked’ is an ensemble comedy in which the
romance takes place between the young people of the ‘60s and
pop music. It’s about a band of rogue DJs who captivated
Britain, playing the music that defined a generation and
standing up to a government that preferred jazz. Meet
The Count, a big, brash, American god of the airwaves;
Quentin, the boss of radio rock – a pirate radio station in
the middle of the North Sea; Gavin, the greatest DJ in
Britain; Dave, an ironic, intelligent and cruelly funny
co-broadcaster; and a fearsome British Government Official
out for blood against the drug takers and lawbreakers of a
once great nation. ‘They rocked. They rolled. Then they
sank...’
This film is on tonight at the Guildhall at 8:00PM. Guest
tickets can be purchased on the night of the screening at
The Windjammer pub in Victoria Road, Dartmouth for £3.60 per

Browns Open This Friday

James Brown reports: Friday
night is still tapas night! We are pleased to continue
to offer our complimentary Tapas this Friday from 5pm. Hope
to see you at Browns!
Smoking Madness at Browns - 17th
February: The world seems to have gone smoking mad! Whether
it's the weekend supplements or David Chang's amazing, and
amusingly titled cookbook Momofuku, everyone seems to be at
it (go see Emma at the Harbour Bookshop who gamely agreed to
get me a copy for Christmas)!
Curry Buffet Thursday 27th January: Our first special night
of the year is a curry buffet on Thursday 27th January. A
plate of tasty Indian appetisers served as a starter will be
followed a taste of 4 contrasting curries, rice, Indian
breads and hot condiments! The price is a recession busting
£14.50 per person.
I wasn't thinking about cool trends when I attended River
Cottage last year for a smoking and curing course. It's
taken a year for me to lay my hands on a Bradley commercial
smoker but now I have one, we are ready for some fun, just
think about all that June mackerel! Thursday 17th
February - 2 course dinner £18.50 Cold smoked organic salmon
cured in malt whisky, dark mollasses sugar, cinnamon and
star anis, smoked over apple. My thanks to Phillip Watts for
planting the seeds of that idea in my head. The main course
will be slow cooked, hot smoked, belly of pork with many
secret ingredients! To book please call 01803 832572
