2 New restaurant at Dart Marina in Dartmouth gets green light

A new 90 cover restaurant, with a wall of glass overlooking the River Dart, at Dart Marina Hotel in Dartmouth, has been given the go ahead by South Hams District Council. Part of a one million pound re-design project, the new River Restaurant is due to be completed in late Spring 2012.

Elegant, light and spacious, the new Restaurant, which will have two levels, will give a greater number of guests a clear view over the River Dart while they are dining, which is a unique part of the experience at Dart Marina. The interior design is sumptuous with soft leather in warm bark tones, burnt caramel and olive velvet, large stylish dining chairs and soft banquette seating. Carefully positioned ceramic oak-leaf wall lights, bronze pendants, and chic table lamps have been chosen to create a relaxing dining experience and at the rear of the Restaurant a new bar area with soft blue and grey sofas, curvy bar tables and a marble topped main bar will create the atmosphere of a members club.

“We heard that we had been given planning permission on December 23rd and this really was a reason to celebrate over Christmas for all our team,” said Dart Marina’s Manager Paul Downing. “We are investing a million pounds in the Hotel as part of our ongoing commitment to maintain the highest standards for our guests and to ensure that the Hotel is positioned to offer exceptional hospitality for many years to come”.

The construction of the new River Restaurant is being project managed and built by Ease Development Services of Shaldon in Devon, and Jon O’Dwyer and Sarah Daniels of Do Design Studio in London have once again created the interior design in keeping with their previous work at Dart Marina. The project also includes 14 newly redesigned guest rooms, with stunning views of the River Dart and plans also include landscaping an area at the front of the Hotel.

3.    'Hungry Sailors' filmed on the River Dart

Sue Fildes reports: There is a new series showing now on ITV1, every weekday at 4 pm. It’s called ‘The Hungry Sailors’  Click here to read more about the TV series.

The Dartmouth programme is on this afternoon at 4:00pm !

‘Dick Strawbridge and his son James set sail around Britain’s coastline to experience all the amazing local food our coast has to offer. Dick was in the final three on Celebrity Masterchef and James has been a professional chef so they’re both passionate about food. They’ll moor the boat and use a dinghy to get up estuaries and visit producers inland. When they’ve gathered up all their ingredients it's back to the boat to cook up a storm. But the series isn’t just about food – it’s about the people who live and work close to the sea, their unique lifestyle and the relationship between father and son on their grand adventure.’

At Dittisham they moored up and visited both Phyllis Trant in the village for her plums, and Sue Fildes at Dittisham Farm, up the hill at Capton (they cycled there!) for her rare-breed Berkshire-breed pork. Thus the 3rd episode, on Jan 18th, is called ‘Pork and Plums’. At the Farm Dick and James had great fun catching and washing two show pigs, and attempting to show them with a board and stick – like they do at the agricultural shows. Great fun! Then they took the pork back to the boat to cook with the plums.  Sue does guided tours of her farm to raise money for Devon Air Ambulance, every Saturday at 2 p.m. and any other time by prior arrangement click here for details and to see more.
