1. Candlelit Arias at The
Flavel, part of the Candlelit Dartmouth weekend
Candles and carols, arias and
beautiful singing voices, all combine to bring the Christmas
festive spirit to Dartmouth at the beginning of December. For
two consecutive evenings, on 30 Nov and 1 December, the Little
Opera Company will once again perform their magical arias in a
This exceptional group was founded in 2007 by Celena Bridge and
Felicity Brown who met whilst studying at the Royal Academy.
They became increasingly aware of the large number of very
talented singers who, like themselves, were starting out in
their careers, but were thought too young to be considered by
the major opera companies. Here was an opportunity to create an
exciting, young company that promoted young opera singers,
giving audiences the opportunity to watch performances from some
of Britain’s top future operatic singers. The Little Opera
Company now provide high quality operatic entertainment at a
range of venues, including concert halls, country houses and
unusual theatrical spaces. The Flavel is delighted to welcome
them back once more after their sell-out performances last year.
Sarah Hackford, Artistic Director at the Flavel said “The Little
Opera Company is one of our 'highlight' events of the year. They

My Week with Marilyn : Tonight !
Starring: Michelle Williams,
Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Julia Ormond,
Dougray Scott, Zoe Wanamaker, Emma Watson, Toby Jones,
Philip Jackson, Geraldine Somerville, Derek Jacobi, Simon
Russell Beale, Dominic Cooper.
In the early summer of 1956, 23
year-old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), just down from Oxford
and determined to make his way in the film business, worked
as a lowly assistant on the set of "The Prince and the
Showgirl." The film that famously united Sir Laurence
Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Michelle
Williams), who was also on honeymoon with her new husband,
the playwright Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott).
Nearly 40 years on, his diary account "The Prince, the
Showgirl and Me" was published, but one week was missing and
this was published some years later as "My Week with
Marilyn" – this is the story of that week. When Arthur
Miller leaves England, the coast is clear for Colin to
introduce Marilyn to some of the pleasures of British life;
an idyllic week in which he escorted a Monroe desperate to
get away from her retinue of Hollywood hangers-on and the
pressures of work.
This film is on tonight. Films are screened at The
Guildhall, Victoria Road, Dartmouth. The bar is open from
7.00pm and the films start at 7.30pm Guest tickets are
available on the night for £4.00 each from “The Windjammer”
Victoria Road between 7.00pm & 7.25pm only. No guest tickets
will be sold on the door. For more information call Clive Osborne on: Tel. 07968
