2.   Salmon Fishing in the Yemen : Tonight

Director: Lasse Hallström  : Actors: Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, Amr Waked, Kristin Scott Thomas : 107 minutes : Cert. 12A. Comedy/Drama/Romance :

‘McGregor and Blunt have a wonderfully tingly chemistry as the two mismatched small fry forced to swim upstream together.’

Directed by Lasse Hallström and based on Paul Torday’s popular novel, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is a gentle romantic comedy. When Britain's leading fisheries expert (Ewan McGregor) is approached by a consultant (Emily Blunt) to help realize a sheikh's (Amr Waked) vision of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to the desert, he immediately thinks the project is both absurd and unachievable. But when the Prime Minister's overzealous press secretary (Kristin Scott Thomas) latches on to it as a "good will" story, this unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible.

This film is on tonight.  Films are screened at The Guildhall, Victoria Road, Dartmouth. The bar is open from 7.00pm and the films start at 7.30pm Guest tickets are available on the night for £4.00 each from “The Windjammer” Victoria Road between 7.00pm & 7.25pm only. No guest tickets will be sold on the door. For more information call Clive Osborne on: Tel. 07968 026449

3.   Small News

  • The Trustees of the Dartmouth & District Indoor Pool have arranged a Quiz Night at Cafe Alf Resco on Friday 1st February at 7 pm to raise funds towards equipping the pool once it has been built. (Detailed plans are being drawn up ready for submission for planning approval)

Tickets are £12.50 which includes a 'rustic supper'. If you'd like to take part and can't manage to get a team of 6 together - please just contact Julia Springett who may be able to put you with others to make up a team. It's all for fun and who knows - you might just win!

  • Chris Hutchins reports: Thank you once more for a magnificent Dartmouth News - you do it so well. It makes us want to come and spend our lives in your lovely town even more. In the meantime, Happy New Year.
