Rose

believed to be coastguard cottages,
situated in the village of Kingswear in
beautiful South Devon, on a hillside
overlooking Waterhead Creek of the River
Dart and across the Dart itself to the
town of Dartmouth.

Kingswear
has a general store, post office and
pubs and it is just a short walk from
the cottage to the ferries to Dartmouth,
a picturesque and historic port with an
outstanding range of individual shops,
renowned restaurants and bars and art
galleries. Dartmouth is also home to
Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC),
built in 1905 to provide training for
Britain’s naval officers.

Rose
Cottage has a lovely homely feel and
offers a warm welcome to you for your
holiday whatever the season. The cottage
sleeps 4 in one double and a bunk bedded
room, there is one shower room/WC.
The paved driveway where you can unload
your car leads to stone steps and the
pretty cottage gardens overlooking the
creek. There is a bench outside Rose
Cottage where you can enjoy the
afternoon sun and listen to birds
singing while watching the activity on Waterhead Creek and the River Dart and
enjoying the views across to Dartmouth.
The front
door opens directly into the living room
with comfortable sofa and chairs, fitted
carpet with a bright rug and an open
fire; there’s a colour TV here for you
if you can drag your eyes from the view
across the river.

The modern
kitchen/diner is well equipped with an
electric oven and ceramic hob, fridge,
and microwave. There is plenty of
crockery, cutlery and pans. The back
door leads to a sunny patio with table
and chairs. The washing machine and
tumble drier are situated in the utility
room just across the small patio.

Stairs lead
from the kitchen to the first floor
where you will find the bedrooms and
bathroom. Bedroom one has a king size
bed, plenty of wardrobe space, pine
dressing table and chests, and
outstanding views across the river.
Bedroom two looks out on the back garden
and has bunk beds, hanging space and
chest of drawers. In the bathroom there
is an electric power shower, washbasin
and WC.
Heating is

Duvets, linen and towels are provided.
There is parking for one small car on
the driveway. Non-smokers only please.

The view
from the front garden

The Port of Dartmouth is situated in
beautiful South Devon in an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty; most of the
lower town is a Conservation Area, with
many historic buildings, narrow winding
streets and steps. The houses seem to
cling precariously to the sides of the
steep valley overlooking the bustling
River Dart. Have a lunchtime crab
sandwich and drink on Bayard’s Cove,
where the Pilgrim Fathers departed for
the New World, enjoy fishing for crabs
from the embankment or take a leisurely
stroll around Dartmouth’s many and
varied individual shops and art
galleries, pubs, bars and nationally
acclaimed restaurants.
During your stay you’ll find plenty to
do.
Maybe take a trip on the meandering
River Dart to Totnes, seeing cormorants,
herons, egrets and even seals in the
river on the way. Take a ferry to
Greenway, home of famous author Agatha
Christie and now owned by the National
Trust; or perhaps a nostalgic trip from
Kingswear Station on the Paignton and
Dartmouth Steam Railway, a seven mile
journey through wooded slopes and along
the spectacular Torbay coast, where on a
clear day you can see right across Lyme
Bay to Portland Bill!
Dartmouth and Kingswear Castles guard
the entrance to the harbour and from
here you can walk along the South Devon
Coast Path and enjoy stunning views from
the cliffs at Little Dartmouth, or
follow the coast path from Kingswear to
Coleton Fishacre, another National Trust
property, the former home of the D’Oyley
Carte family of Gilbert and Sullivan
fame. If beaches are what you are
looking for, award winning Blackpool
Sands is just a short drive away, as is
the excellent beach and National Nature
Reserve at Slapton.
